tzedakah

Usually translated "charity," but the word comes from tzedek, justice, and that's not a small distinction. Charity implies a generous choice, tzedakah is treated as an obligation you owe, with set amounts and priorities laid out in Jewish law rather than left to feeling moved. A kid dropping coins in a blue box is doing the same thing, structurally, as a wealthy donor writing a check they're required to write.
