tallit

A tallit is the prayer shawl worn during prayer, with knotted fringes called tzitzit on each of its four corners as commanded in the Torah. Many people receive one as a bar or bat mitzvah gift and wear it for the rest of their life, sometimes the same one at their own wedding under the chuppah. The size and how it's worn, over the shoulders or pulled up over the head, varies by community and by mood.
